Acrylic Coffee Tables: Stylish & Timeless Acrylic Furniture

acrylic coffee tableToday, contemporary furniture designers, such as the California based designer, Alexandra Von Furstenberg, design and make sophisticated, modern and innovative acrylic furniture, with one of their specialities being the acrylic coffee table.

An acrylic coffee table is luxurious, and a great design element that brilliantly lights up a living room. It serves well as a cocktail table which add delight to a space if in bright colours, or can infuse a sophisticated and calm feel if in black or clear transparent finish. It is also available in clear finish, accented with red, pink, yellow, green, blue, bronze, or smoky grey hues.

Acrylic furnishings are produced from transparent thermoplastic materials and are renowned for their shatter proof qualities, and unobtrusive effects in a room. They are a great alternative to glass furnishings because they come cheaper, lighter and much more versatile than glass.

Features

These tables come in a wide variety of designs, thicknesses and sizes, while some come adjustable. They can be used, not only as a centre table, but also effectively as corner tables that serve as display surfaces for art pieces, decorative collections, and small family mementos.

However, they all basically consist of a thick slab of clear or translucent top, with:

  • 4 individual legs.
  • 2 panel legs, made as a continuous piece with the top surface.
  • Sculptured legs that serve as a plinth, for acrylic coffee tables that appear ethereal and timeless.
  • Legs made from other materials such as stainless steel, brass, chrome, wood and even stone pedestals.

Acrylic Fits In With Most Interior Design Themes

acrylic coffee tableThese excellently sturdy tables are modern and exotic, and will look welcome in most interior design schemes. Because they are clear acrylic, they are almost always ‘not in the way’. You’ll hardly notice acrylic tables, and this is good if meant for small rooms, like many people have.

And because acrylic coffee tables are sleek and never look bulky or intimidating, no matter their size, they are aptly described as possessing the minimalist, almost futuristic look. Their lightweight unbreakable qualities make them more practical and versatile to use or move around, more so than glass coffee tables.

Maintaining Acrylic Table Surfaces

The downside of these tables is that they will scratch easily if used without care or concern. Acrylic materials must have no contact with anything abrasive or corrosive, so items such as a rough abrasive cloths or cleaning chemicals must not be used to clean or dust an acrylic coffee table.

Object of décor made from stone, rock, etc, must be placed on decorative or embroidered cloth mats to protect the coffee table’s surface. Also, it is good to avoid placing overtly hot items on acrylic table surfaces, because they will leave unsightly marks that will never be removed.

Having said that, acrylic tables are a ‘must have’ for those planning on redecorating their homes. With the addition of one unique item, an acrylic coffee table, the room will be wonderfully transformed.
